Spain Announces 1,000 Million Euros for Cooperation with Colombia
On May 3, 2023, the only state visit Spain organized this year took place, during which Colombian President Gustavo Petro and his entourage, including Minister of Commerce Germán Umaña and Minister of Mines and Energy Irene Vélez, were received. The visit was described as “extraordinarily positive” by the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, and featured the participation of the Spanish crown in a reception full of honors and protocol.
During the visit, a meeting was also held with the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), where specific topics were discussed.
One of the most notable agreements was the “Financial Protocol,” through which Spain will allocate 1,000 million euros using various cooperation instruments in trade and investment, for the financing of projects in priority sectors in collaboration with Spanish companies.
In addition, the signing of agreements in the field of education was announced, aiming to facilitate student exchange between both countries and improve labor and pension compatibility for Colombian migrants in Spain.
Furthermore, issues related to the fight against crime, sports, connectivity, and railways were addressed, where the Spanish industry can contribute with its technology and specialized knowledge.
