Airbus, the airplane manufacturing company, has recently announced an agreement with the Colombian Government to develop “aeroparts” for aerial vehicles, with an approximate investment of US$329 million. The signing of the agreement will take place in Spain, with the presence of the Colombian President, Gustavo Petro.
Germán Umaña, Minister of Industry and Commerce, stated that during the president’s visit to the Airbus plant in Spain, other proposals will be discussed, such as the substitution of traditional fuels with green hydrogen in airplanes. Additionally, topics related to the manufacturing of components and shipyards for the aerospace sector and the Colombian Navy will be discussed.
In the words of Minister Umaña: “The short-term proposal is an investment of 300 million euros by Airbus, where together with the Air Force industry, they will manufacture propellers and all structures in Colombia, but with exclusivity to produce them for the world.”
Umaña also explained that there are a total of five proposals under consideration, but the most immediate one involves an investment of 300 million euros by Airbus, in collaboration with the Colombian Air Force (FAC). This proposal involves the manufacturing of propellers and other structures in Colombia, with a focus on technology transfer, engineering training, and exclusivity for the production of these components worldwide.
