Tourism, a critical industry for many economies worldwide, has experienced a significant resurgence in 2023, specifically in Colombia. Foreign tourism in the country has seen an impressive 47% spike in the first quarter of this year. This data, provided by the main Colombian authority in tourism, Anato (National Association of Travel Agencies), underscores the steady rebound of the tourism sector in the post-pandemic world.
When considering the scenario where 2022 was the immediate aftermath of the pandemic, this growth is even more noteworthy. However, when compared to pre-pandemic times, this augmentation in foreign tourism also represents a 6% increase. It shows that the tourism industry in Colombia is not only recovering but also thriving, exceeding its pre-pandemic performance.
Anato’s executive president, Paula Cortés Calle, emphasized the significance of this recovery in a statement: “The rebound in incoming tourism has been substantial and higher than the rates that were seen before the pandemic. This positively impacts the various destinations in our country and the inflow of foreign currency, which for 2022, was located at US$7.368 billion, with a variation of 9%, compared to 2019.”
This surge in foreign tourism is a clear testament to the increasingly positive perception of Colombia in the global community. The trend is expected to continue to improve, reinforcing Colombia’s status as a desirable destination for international travelers. With its rich culture, vibrant cities, and stunning natural beauty, Colombia is ready to welcome tourists from all over the world, promising them unforgettable experiences.
