The Danish Ambassador in Colombia recently highlighted the great potential that the South American country has for the production of renewable energy in an interview with the newspaper La República. The Danish diplomat emphasized Colombia’s ability to become a global power in the generation of clean energy, comparing it to Saudi Arabia in terms of renewable energy production.
“We have been successful with the transition, but we see that a country like Colombia has a huge potential for wind and solar energy; they could be the Saudi Arabia of renewable energy, and there is a future there that if managed well, the transition could be very prosperous. That is the future,” said the Ambassador.

Colombia has a privileged geographical position, especially in La Guajira, where the winds are recognized as the best in the world. “There is a lot of wind stability, very strong winds, better than in the North Sea. That is, when an expert comes, they say there is truly a gigantic potential here,” explained the Danish diplomat.

n addition, the Ambassador highlighted the positive impact that investment in renewable energy could have on the Colombian economy: “Every time Denmark or a company installs a gigawatt of renewable energy, it is estimated that 15,000 new jobs are created.” This data suggests that the transition to clean energy would not only benefit the environment but would also boost job creation and economic growth in the country.

Colombia’s potential in the renewable energy sector is not limited to the local scope, but could extend to the export of green hydrogen and the sale of energy to neighboring countries through interconnections. The Danish diplomat concluded his interview by emphasizing the importance of a well-managed energy transition, which could lead Colombia to become one of the world powers in clean energy generation, generating prosperity and opportunities for its population.
